Good boiler water treatment is one of the important links to ensure the safe and economic operation of boilers. Because of the high combustion temperature of oil and gas, and the small size, compact structure of most oil and gas fired boilers (especially imported oil and gas fired boilers), which require high water quality, if water treatment is not done well, it will cause scaling and corrosion of boilers, not only waste fuel, but also easily cause accidents such as blockage and tube burst, and in serious cases, it will also cause the biggest economic loss of abandoned boilers. Therefore, the oil-fired and natural gas-fired boilers must do a good job in boiler water treatment.
Impurities Hazardous to Boilers in Natural Water and Purpose of Boiler Water Treatment
There are a lot of impurities in natural water, among which suspended substances, colloidal substances and dissolved substances are the main factors affecting boilers.
Suspended substances and cavity substances consist of mud, sand, animal and plant remains and some low molecular aggregates, which are the main factors causing water turbidity. If these impurities enter the ion exchanger, they will pollute the exchange resin and affect the quality of the effluent {If they enter the boiler directly, they will easily deteriorate the steam quality, deposit into mud, block the pipeline, and damage the metal due to overheating. Suspended and colloidal substances can be removed by pretreatment.
Dissolved substances mainly refer to salts and certain gases dissolved in water. Natural water, even if it looks very pure, contains a variety of dissolved salts, of which calcium and magnesium salts, i.e. hardness substances, are the main causes of boiler scaling. Because scale is harmful to boiler, removing hardness and preventing scaling is the primary task of boiler water treatment, which can be achieved by chemical treatment outside the boiler or medication treatment inside the boiler.
Oxygen and carbon dioxide are the main factors affecting the equipment of oil-fired and gas-fired boilers. They will cause oxygen corrosion and acid corrosion to the boilers. Oxygen and hydrogen ions are also a major depolarizer, which will accelerate the electrochemical corrosion, and are one of the important factors causing corrosion of the boilers. Dissolved oxygen can be removed by deaerator or by adding reducing drugs. For carbon dioxide, as long as the pot water keeps a certain pH value and alkalinity, its influence can be eliminated.
In addition, the alkalinity of water source is higher in some areas. After the combustion of oil-fired and gas-fired boiler is heated and concentrated, the alkalinity of pot water will become higher and higher. After reaching a certain concentration, it will foam on the evaporation surface, which will affect the quality of steam. Under certain conditions, too high alkalinity will also cause caustic embrittlement and other alkaline corrosion in the stress concentration area. Therefore, the water quality with high alkalinity needs to be treated by reducing alkali. In addition, the excessive content of dissolved solids will also affect the quality of steam, and even cause co-evaporation of steam and water in serious cases. It should be controlled by reasonable sewage discharge. In short, the purpose of boiler water treatment is to remove harmful impurities, prevent boiler scaling and corrosion, maintain good steam quality, and ensure safe and economic operation of the boiler.
